About the Book
Ellie Abbington, a beautiful yet unassuming young woman, quietly longs for her life to change. Too privileged to associate with the servants—too underprivileged to associate with her own family; she dreams a dream of a prince and a happily ever after.
But it could be that her own stepsisters, conniving Dezmarie and easily-influenced Adelaide, are dreaming the same dream…of the same prince.
In the end, are dreams all that they’re made out to be? Especially with deep and long-hidden secrets about to be unearthed?
A Dream Not Imagined is a non-magical fairytale novella based loosely on the classic tale of Cinderella.
Just as the title implies, so the story is. And in a magnificent way, too! Honestly, I got so much more from this story than I expected—entertainment-wise and in other aspects. Shantelle is a sharp writer, one whose work I’ll definitely look out for as I scan shelves in the future.
A Dream Not Imagined is a Cinderella retelling, but with a new twist—one that I greatly enjoyed. Though it was entered in the Five Glass Slipper Creative Writing Contest by Rooglewood Press, but didn’t come out as one of the five winning stories, I’m glad Shantelle published it! This is a beautiful story of hope—although heartrending in some parts—faith, and true love. As I read the last scene, I couldn’t help smiling. Its theme rings clear with the message that, when your fate is in God’s hands, no plan He has for you can go wrong, no matter how misplaced your life may appear to be. He can repair, revive, redeem, and provide as you go along the path He’s placed you on. All you have to do is trust Him (even to write your love story!) and cast your cares on His loving shoulders.
Though mild, it’s a truly sweet and well done novella!
*Though I offer this review to the public, it’s my opinion and simply that. A ‘thank you’ to the author, Shantelle Mary Hannu, for a free copy in exchange for my honest opinion.
